Mary Payne

Mrs. Mary Catherine Smith Payne, age 88, of Madison County, passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at Compassionate Care Center.
Mrs. Payne, the daughter of the late John and Lillie Moore Smith, was born in Drip Rock, Kentucky on August 28, 1934. She was a homemaker by title but her duties went beyond that. She babysat and nurtured several children for over 30 years. She was also an accomplished seamstress and her hobbies included vegetable gardening and quilting. She served faithfully alongside her husband as a pastor’s wife in several local churches and spent one year in a mission church in Loveland, Colorado. She enjoyed her daily phone conversations with her niece, Ethel Richardson and friends, Myrtle Rudie and Lou Thompson. After the death of her husband, she became a member of Harmons Lick Church of God.
On July 12, 1952, Catherine was united in marriage to William R. Payne who preceded her in death in July 2003.
Survivors include their daughter: Brenda (& Earnest) Kidd of Paint Lick; fourteen grandchildren: Joey Mason (Crystal), David Mason (Jill), Becky Mason, Jennifer Kidd-Eversole (David), Tony Kidd (Danica), Bryan Birdkidd (Austin), Chris Kidd, Austin Kidd (Kodi), Cheyenne, Bri, Tyrone, Molly, Jordyn and Malayna Kidd; 11 great grandchildren; one sister-in-law: Merlene Smith and several nephews and nieces.
Mrs. Payne was also preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law: Phyllis and Park Mason and her siblings: Raleigh Smith, Louella Smith, Clayton Smith, John Earl Smith, Henry Smith, Dora Cox and Reva Malicote.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday, November 18, 2022 at Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Harrison and Rev. Vernon Willard officiating. Burial will follow in the Madison County Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 5:00 – 8:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Joey Mason, David Mason, Tony Kidd, Bryan Birdkidd, Chris Kidd, Austin Kidd and David Eversole.
To know her is to love her and be loved by her. She will be truly missed.
